About Me

My name is Rachael. I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes back in 2005, when I was 6. I have made this blog so you can read how I cope with my Diabetes, and to know that you are not the only person who has it!

Introductions

Hi everyone. I've decided to write my own blog about life with Diabetes. In it will be how I cope with it, how it affects my life and how it makes me feel. I hope you can learn from my lifestyle so that yours will be the best it can be.

To starts with, I'd better introduce myself. I'm Rachael, and I'm 13 years old. I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes in 2005. I can remember how it happened and everything. (I was painting a little lighthouse when I was in Year 2, when my mum came in to collect me for my doctors appointment. When we got there, the doctor did a blood test on me and told me he suspected I had Diabetes. He sent us up to the hospital.) However, I don't let Diabetes rule over my life! I still go swimming twice a week, and I can still go out places with my friends. It just takes a lot more organising than it would normally.

Don't worry, this blog isn't going to just be about Diabetes; I'll also post about events that are coming up, any achievements and just generally what I get up to. It might take a while to get good, but I hope you'll stick with me.

Here's to a successful blog that I hope you'll enjoy!

  2. Hi Rachael,
Wow! I think this is an absolutely brilliant idea! What a great way to educate people about diabetes and how it can affect others and their lives.
My Grandmother died from diabetes many, many years ago and in those days I don't think there was much they could do about it, so it's really amazing to see how medicine has advanced since then and how people are much more able to lead near normal lives.
So I look forward to continuing to watch your blog! Keep up the good work! And I am sure it will help lots of youngsters in the same situation as you.
